The Islamic Republic of Pakistan (Pakistan) is a Muslim majority country. Pakistan’s history began on the 14th August 1947  however it is argued the desire for the creation of a Muslim nation in the Indian Subcontinent started when Muhammad Bin Qasim conquered, established and ruled the Islamic Province of Sind around 711 CE (currently part of modern day Pakistan). The Islamic Province of Sind was ruled under the Ummayads and later the Abbasids. Muhammad Bin Qasim marked the beginning of Muslim rulers in the Indian Subcontinent which increased over time.

Whilst Muslims had traded within the Indian Subcontinent before 711 CE, Muslims have ruled parts of the Indian Subcontinent for over 1300 years. The Muslim population in Pakistan is estimated at 221 million whilst the Muslim population in Bangladesh (previously called East Pakistan as it was part of Pakistan) is around 166 million and there are approximately 213 million muslims within modern India. This totals to around 600 million Muslims within the Indian Subcontinent.
